Overview: Title: Activity Instructor - Dance Reports to: Program Director, LEAP @ PS224 Location: 757 Worthman Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11208 Hours: Up to 10 hours, Non-exempt (School Year) Schedule: Monday : 3-6pm, Tuesday: 2:30-6, Thursday: 2:30-6 Salary: $19 - $25 / hour Job Summary: The Dance Instructor will teach participants different styles of Dance. Instructor should have choreography skills and be able to work with younger children. Major Duties: * Provide and teach well planned dance classes to participants. * Follow and implement prescribed sequenced dance curriculum. * Submit unit/activity plans in advance. * Conduct activities enriched with literacy, history and other related academic subjects when applicable. * Plan and implement a culminating event or project at the end of each cycle. * Delegate roles & expectations to group leaders and program aides during class time to assist with the facilitation of a group (where applicable). * Articulate expectations to group leaders and program aides on what aspect of the classwork needs to be strengthened and practiced in preparation for the next class (where applicable). * Responsible for the setup, operation and clean-up of activities and the organization, inventory and storing of relevant supplies and equipment. * Attend all staff meetings and staff development training sessions, as specified. * Guide program participants in examining choices, following directions and becoming involved in program activities. * Perform other duties as assigned. * Must think out of box and into Space. Qualifications: * High School Diploma Min. BA preferred. * Professional experience in teaching dance required. * Must be able to engage young people and set structure and limits in a group setting. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective. * Complete required DOE & DOH clearances.
