Responsibilities:

Able Seaman to maintain the NASA barge Pegasus in a state of readiness for movement of space flight hardware. Perform work as directed by the Marine Operations Manager and assist the vessel engineer, as requested. Job includes pulling and handling heavy lines, wires, and hoses; working with sensitive and critical cargo; making up and releasing tow from assist tugs, good communication skills both verbal and hand signals with assist tugs; watch standing; general vessel maintenance; and other task that may be assigned to carry out. The AB completes daily job assignments, duties and reports on the status of work assignments; contributes to the organization and storage of inspection, maintenance, and repair records in both electronic and/or hard copy format. 

Qualifications:

Reporting to the Marine Operations Manager, essential job functions and duties include but are not limited to the following:

* Take direction from the Marine Operations Manager
* Ensures the vessel exceeds all Federal, NASA requirements and standards
* Documents inspections, maintenance, and repairs in designated CMMS systems
* Standing underway watch
* Assist in the make-up of tows as directed
* Handle heavy mooring lines and properly tie off the barge taking direction from the Marine Operations Manager
* Make up and handle heaving and messenger lines
* Capable of working/maintaining heavy windless and capstan equipment
* Knot tying and rope/wire splicing
* Give clear direction and distance signals
* Proper use of a VHF radio
* Vessel and equipment maintenance, cleaning and painting
* Request purchasing through the Marine Operations Manager
* Advises Marine Operations Manager of ISO/Training improvements necessary with systems and logs for corrective actions and prevention of risks regarding health, safety, environmental, and quality
* Assist in preparation for VGP, USCG and ABS inspections
* Assist with scheduled haul outs and ship yard support
* Assist in maintaining all vessel safety equipment in compliance of all Federal and NASA regulations
* General cooking and galley duties
