Overview:
This position will report to our Jersey City, NJ office 3 days a week.
AmTrust Financial Services, Inc. ("AFS" or the "Company") is a global property and casualty insurance company that is looking for an Assistant Vice President ("AVP") in their Finance Team in Jersey City, NJ. In this position, you will be responsible for oversight of a number of legal entity controllers, reinsurance and corporate accounting functions within the North America Property & Casualty Insurance (NAPC) segment. An AVP in this role is a motivated, experienced and independent thinker who plays a critical role in supporting the NAPC segment. The role interacts with our finance leadership team, Reinsurance, Underwriting, Claims and Actuarial departments. The expected salary range for this role is $141,000 - $215,000 annually.

Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Oversee and coordinate timely and accurate accounting, financial reporting and analysis of our U.S. insurance entities.
Lead financial close activities such as journal entry review, account analysis, and financial package preparation.
Assist in managing the corporate reinsurance accounting team in performing close related tasks.
Participate in the implementation and review of non-routine reinsurance transactions (e.g. loss portfolio transfers, adverse development covers, commutations, etc.).
Ensure consistent accounting treatment and accounting policies across entities.
Lead efforts to create efficiencies in the quarterly/annual financial close processes.
Analyze and understand financial results to ensure reasonableness and accuracy of the financial statements including presentation of results and providing input to internal management reporting.
Review quarterly trend analyses by financial statement line item or GL account; investigate and provide commentary on fluctuations for senior management.
Provide accounting support for complex transactions, acquisitions/ divestitures, new product/business onboarding and ad hoc tasks for management reviews and reporting to enhance decision making.
Develop/maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders through frequent contact, proactive communication and professional interaction.
Develop and mentor direct reports to ensure knowledge sharing and professional growth.
Support the company's framework of internal controls by driving the design and execution of related SOX controls.
Assist with other ad hoc responsibilities including but not limited to participation in special projects, system implementations and/or enhancements, business integration, and internal controls.
Qualifications:
8 to 10 years of experience in the Insurance and Reinsurance Industry with a focus on technical accounting and financial reporting.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA certification preferred)
Big 4 experience preferred
Strong understanding of US GAAP accounting and financial reporting requirements, with knowledge of U.S. statutory accounting and IFRS a plus.
Working knowledge of systems and technology utilized within insurance/reinsurance accounting and financial reporting processes.
Proficient with MS Office applications, particularly Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, etc.)
Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning Software (e.g. Oracle and FCCS)
